Troitskoye Predmestye (Trinity Suburb, Траецкае прадмесце) is a historical area in Minsk, it's situated on left bank of the river Svisloch.

A lot of suburb's buildings were not kept till our time. Nevertheless, the western part of Trinity Suburb has been restored in XX century. It isn't historical reconstruction, some buildings are graceful stylization. Nevertheless, walking in this small suburb is very pleasant.

My favourite symphony

Me
I know my favourite symphony. Rakhmaninov's II symphony.Though I like Skryabin, Mahler, Messiaen, Schnittke, Brahms, Sibelius. But Rakhmaninov's II symphony is the favourite one. Now it sounds in performance Andre Previn. Right now.

Wiem, co mój ulubiony symfoniczną. II Symfonia Rachmaninowa. Chociaż kocham Skriabina, Mahlera, Messiaena, Schnittke, Brahmsa i Sibeliusa. Ale Rachmaninowa II Symfonia - najdroższy. Teraz to brzmi w wykonaniu Andre Previn. W tej chwili.

Wiener Staatsoper. Work commenced on the building in 1861 and was completed in 1869, following plans drawn up by architects August Sicard von Sicardsburg and Eduard van der Nüll. It's interesting that the building has been scarified by press and the emperor. As a result van der Nüll has committed suicide, and Sicard von Sicardsburg has died from a heart attack...

Petropavlovsky Cathedral (Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral) in Kazan is an masterpiece of Moscow (Naryshkin) Baroque. The temple is consecrated in honour of heavenly Tsar Peter I patron.

Petropavlovsky Cathedral is builded in 1722. Constructing were operated by merchant Mikhlyaev the head of imperial factories in Kazan. Most likely, orientally beautiful cathedral and its bell-tower were constructed by in common Moscow and Kazan masters.

Bogoyavlensky (Bogoyavlensko-Anastasyin, Epiphany) Male Monastery (Богоявленский, Богоявленско-Анастасьин монастырь) is a Russian Ortodox monastery in Kostroma which was founded in XV century by Nikita who was a disciple and a relative by Sergy Radonezhsky.

In 1559 the construction of the monastic Bogoyavlensky (Epiphany) Cathedral was begun. In 1570 some monks from the monastery were accused of the supporting to Vladimir of Staritsa and punished by Ivan the Terrible.

In XVII century the monastic house and the bell tower were constructed. It's interesting that the bell tower was a simple tower of the walls and was reconstructed as a belltower in XIX century. Also in XIX century the Сhapel and additional facilities for Bogoyavlensky Cathedral were constructed.

After the Revolution the Monastery was abolished. The renaissance of monastery as a female one began in 1990s years. Now in the Monastery Fedorovskaya Icon of Virgin is situated. In our days the passage to the monastery is prohibited.

Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery in Kazan

Spaso-Preobrazhensky (Savior Transfiguration) Male Monastery in Kazan isn't operating in our time. It's situated in Kazan inside Kazan Kremlin.

The Monastery was founded in 1557. In 1595—1601 years in its walls Savior Transfiguration Cathedral was constructed which was destroyed in 1920s. But monastic apartment house of 1670s (in photo) was kept well. Nikola's church of XIX century was kept also.

Kizichesky Vvedensky Monastery in Kazan

Kizichesky Vvedensky Monastery is a small male monastery in the capital of Tatarstan. The monastery was founded in 1691 by Adrian the Moscow Patriarch who till 1690 were the Kazan Bishop. The name Kazichesky means Holy Martyrs of Cyzicus. The monastery was devotes to them because parts of their relics were brought in the monastery according to blessing of Adrian.

In 1690s there Vvedensky Cathedral (Presentation of Mary Cathedral) and Vladimirskaya Church (Church of Vladimir Icon of Virgin) were builded. Vvedensky Cathedral was destroyed in Soviet epoch. In this monastery Ilya Andreevich Tolstoy the grandfather of Lev Tolstoy was buried.

Kazansky Ioanno-Predtechensky Male Monastery (Ioann the Baptist Monastery in Kazan) is a miniature male monastery in Kazan near Kazan Kremlin.

The history of this monastery in the capital of Tatarstan began in 1560s years. Its founder was German the archbishop of Kazan, and he named the monastery to the honour of Ioann the Baptist who was the heavenly patron of the Russian Tsar Ioann the Terrible.

Berween 1649 and 1652 there was reconstruction in monastery. In that time former wood monastery became a stone archtectural ensemble. Vvedenskaya Church and the monastic belltower are kept from this time.

St. Martin's Cathedral in Bratislava

St. Martin's Cathedral (Katedrála sv. Martina, Kathedrale des Heiligen Martin) is the biggest and the most magnificent of Bratislava's gothic churches. The cathedral was started to build in 13 century, the building has got modern shape to 1849.

From 1563 St. Martin's Cathedral became the coronation church of the sovereigns of the Kingdom of Hungary. In total, the coronations of 11 kings and queens plus 8 of their consorts took place here between 1563 and 1830, including Maximilian II, Rudolf II, Leopold I, Joseph I, Maria Theresa.

There are the works by Georg Rafael Donner in this cathedral: the Baroque Chapel of St. John the Merciful was completed in the first half of the 18th century, and the the famous Baroque equestrian sculpture of St. Martin was added in 1744.

Inside of a cathedral the tombs were kept including a tomb of J. I. Bajza who is the author of the first Slovak novel "René mláďenca prihodi a skusenosťi".

Svyato-Troitsky Markov Monastery

Svyato-Troitsky Markov Monastery (Holy Trinity Markov Monastery) is one of two modern monasteries in Vitebsk (second one is female Svyato-Dukhov Monastery).

Markov Monastery was founded at XIV-XV c. A legend indicates that a certain Mark found a place to stay alone and builded a chapel there. After he was joined by like-minded persons, who formered the monastery.

Svyato-Duhov Monastery in Vitebsk, Belarus

Svyato-Duhov Monastery (Holy Spirit Monastery) in Vitebsk has a difficult and tragic history. This orthodox monastery was found in 1380s by Iuliania Alexandrovna who was a Duchess of Vitebsk and the wife of Olgerd the Grand Duke of Lithuania. Olgerd ordered to costruct The Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in this monastery. About 1392—1393, after the Olgerd's death Iuliania taked the vows of schema in her monastery.

Fron the middle of XVII c. till 1839 Svyato-Duhov Monastery was a greek-catholic klasztor. In 1839 the monastery became the orthodox one again, but on the score of the poverty was abolished soon. After October Revolution the majority of the building were destroyed.

The was revived in 2001. In our time there is one building here in which the monastic cell and St. Olga Church is found.

The Ladder (Lestnichnaya) Tower of the Andrey Bogolubsky's Palace.
XII century.
A dark fragment is a fragment of the former palace.
At this tower's ladder the duke Andrey bogolubsky according a legend was killed in the night from 28 till 29 june 1174.
Over the tower at XVII c. the bell-tower was constructed (some reconstruction of XVIII c.)
Virgin Nativity Church was constructed at XVIII c. on the place of XII century's church.
The hipped roof is the building of XVII c.
Now all this buildings are on the territory of Bogolubovsky Monastery (Bogolubovo near Vladimir, Russia).

Spiritual Labyrinth, a baroque icon

A baroque icon Spiritual Labyrinth is situated in the New Yerusalem (Novo-Ierusalimsky) Monastery. It was painted at the turn of XVII-XVIII centuries.

At the top of the icon there is the Jerusalem, the Kingdom of Heaven. The Gehenna is at the foot of the icon on the right, the devils are at the foot on the left. The devils fire the pistols, the muskets, the arquebuses, and prevent to sinners to reach Yerusalem. The most terrible is the Envy who fire a gun. In the centre of the icon which is blured by a patch of light on the photo there are the allegories of the sins and the Spirit.

Spaso-Preobrazhensky (Savior-Transfiguration) Cathedral in Dnepropetrovsk (former Ekatherinoslav), Ukraine.

The construction of Cathedral was planed by Ekatherina II in 1787, but her plans were not realiwed. And the Cathedral was constructed only in 1830-1835. The architectural project of the existent cathedral was performed supposedly by Andreyan Zakharov (1761 - 1811) who was the author of the Russian Admiralty (Admiralty Board) building in Saint Petersburg and the other building in Saint Petersburg, Kronstadt, Izhevsk, Gatchina.

Spaso-Borodinsky Monastery

Spaso-Borodinsky Monastery (Спасо-Бородинский монастырь, Spaso=Savior + Borodinsky=Borodino) is situated near Borodino field that is the place of the Borodino battle between the French and the Russian (1812). It's the monument to the battle. The foundress of the monastery is M. M. Tuchkova who was the widow of fallen general A.A. Tuchkov. The sum of money for the monastery's constraction was donated by Alexandr I at 1817.

Borisoglebsky Monastery (Борисоглебский монастырь) = St. Boris and St. Gleb Monastery.
The accurate date of monastery's foundation isn't known. According a legend, the monastery was created by the grand duke Yuri Dolgoruky.
